Water: From Boring to Beautiful

I think we all know that one if the first things you need to do when adopting a healthy lifestyle is to drink more water. Aside from making you fell full (so you eat less) it has a host of other benefits.  I didn’t realize that if you’re feeling thirsty it means you are likely already dehydrated!  This cool info graphic from Mother Nature Network discusses Why Dehydration Is Making You Sick and Fat.

I’m going to be honest here and tell you that I think water is a BORING drink. I was dreading the water cooler in my office. I like seltzer but hated all the plastic and cans and don’t even get me started on soda stream (I had such high hopes)…

So I decided to sass things up a little bit and go back to my old standby: Prevention Magazine’s Sassy Water from it’s Flat Belly Diet. The ingredients supposedly reduce bloat and detox your system. Plus it’s not boring, it’s “sassy.”

It had been a couple of years since I last made sassy water so I googled the recipe to make sure I had the correct proportion of lemon, mint, ginger and cucumber.  Well I was certainly surprised when I saw they came out with 25 new sassy recipes! Not are they deliciously un-boring but they are beautiful in the pitcher and just “feel” healthy.  They have given me an opportunity to try some fruits I have never attempted to cut open (star fruit? Prickly pear?).

My favorites so far have been these combinations:

Pineapple, mango and star fruit
Pear and ginger
Pear, cloves and cinnamon sticks
Oranges, limes and lemons
Limes, cucumbers and mint
Plums and peaches (“plum yum!!”)
Prickly pear and Meyer lemon

My friend Monica was so into our water challenge that she brought in fancy mason jars for us office mates (decorated with ribbon!).

How do you like to sass up your water? Or are you more if a water purist?

I have always enjoyed water so i guess i was already ahead of the game but what i find funny is that i still didnt drink enough! It basically came down to poor habits! Your sassy water reinvigorated my love for water and now i am actively aware of my water consumption (or lack of) and i find myself replacing that second (or third or fourth!) cup of coffee or glass of beer with water! Thx for the inspiration!
